HELLO EVERYONE ! ☀️
I know, I haven't written on here for months and at the time I am writing this article, I am not a language assistant anymore! A lot has happened since then, I am back to France for the summer so I am taking the time to tell you a bit about the Lille school trip that I mentioned in a previous article.
I had the chance to go to Lille with a group of 9 Sixth formers and my mentor teacher who kindly asked if I wanted to come along. As a girl from Paris, I was not super enthusiastic about going to Lille instead of Paris - "security" reasons made us go somewhere else than in Paris...- but I actually really liked the city!
We went there from the 11th to the 14th February, the students had two days of work experience (from receptionist in a hotel to sales assistant at Jules) on Monday and Tuesday but for the rest of the trip, we were lucky enough to do fun activities - in French of course!
Saturday
We took our Eurostar rather early so we were able to wander around Lille in the afternoon! We went for a coffee before exploring the Vieux Lille and the city centre. In the evening, we went to a very cool restaurant called L'Adresse which offers a large choice of burgers and where I'd 100% go back!
Sunday
In the morning, cycling tour of Lille with a French guide followed by an escape game at Get Out Lille, a bit challenging language-wise but really fun, especially because it was the first time I did one! After that, we went to Meert, the chic and famous café restaurant to get a hot drink to keep us warm and a pâtisserie ☕️

Monday/Tuesday
Work experience for my students! They worked hard and speaking a foreign language the whole day is super tiring so we went to a really nice restaurant where they got to try snails, foie gras and other traditional French dishes and to a good Italian one on Tuesday, tutto bene!

Wednesday
Last day in Lille and to me, it was probably the best! In the morning, we did a guided tour in 2CV with young local guides that the students particularly liked before taking a cooking lesson for lunch! We learned how to do a good pastasotto (risotto but with pasta!) that we eat afterwards. After that we went back to the city centre where I bought a nice newspaper from the 20th century at the old market and we headed back to the hotel to eventually go to the station and go back to the UK!
📚Funny thing I've heard in the classroom:
"When you eat snails, do you eat the shell as well?"
